Dart 18 SAS Northern Region Single Handed National Championship 2018 will be sailed at STILBAAI YACHT CLUB From
Thursday 9th August 2018 – Sunday 12 August 2018
NOTICE OF RACE
The Regatta is organized by the Dart 18 Class in conjunction with the Stilbaai Yacht Club (SYC) under the auspices of South African Sailing (SAS).
1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2017 - 2020.
1.2 The South African Sailing Requirements for National Championships will apply.

1.4 Racing rule(s) 44.1 will be changed as follows the Two-Turns Penalty is replaced by the One-Turn Penalty. The changes will appear in full in the sailing instructions. The sailing instructions may also change other rules.
Advertising is permitted subject to the limitations of ISAF Regulation 20.
Boats may be required to display advertising chosen and supplied by the organizing authority.
3 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
3.1 In accordance with the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) Regulation 19 (Eligibility Code), all competitors (Helmspersons and all other crew) shall be members in good standing of a Yacht Club affiliated to and in good standing with South African Sailing, or their Member National Authority in the case of non-South Africans. The Yacht Club name and membership details shall be stated on the entry form or crew list. Current valid South African Sailing Membership Cards or similar proof of MNA Membership in cases of non-South Africans shall be presented at Registration.
3.2 The regatta is open to all boats of the above listed class(s). SEM-05 for 2013-2016. Revised 18/05/2013

3.4 In cases of electronic or faxed entry, confirmation of payment as outlined in 3.3 above shall clearly bear the following reference number Helmsman’s name and be faxed or e- mailed, together with the Entry, to the Regatta Secretary.
3.5 Late entries will be accepted under the following conditions: Until the beginning of the first race.
4.1 Required fees are as follows:
Dart 18………………… Fee R 500 per boat Dart 18 All Junior …… Fee R 400 per boat
4.2 Other Fees:
All Entry Fees and Class subscriptions shall be paid prior to the close of Registration. Failure to meet this requirement will result in the affected yacht being recorded as Did Not Compete until the required payment/s is/are made. This changes rule A11 (DNC)

5.3 Dates of racing:
09/08/2018 - Warning signal for the first race of the day shall not be before 11h00
10 to 12/08/2018 - Warning signal for the first race of the day shall not be before 9h00
5.3 Number of races:
A maximum of 10 races are scheduled for the event.
5.4 No warning signal will be made after 14h30 on the last day of racing, 12th August 2018, unless 4 races have not been sailed for the event. In this instance, racing will continue until 4 races have been sailed for the event, with the cut off time for the warning signal for the last/forth race now extended to 16h00.
5.5 A voluntary skippers briefing will be held at 10:00 on 9th August 2018 at the SYC Clubhouse.
Spot measurements, may be taken at any stage during the regatta.
7 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
Sailing Instructions will be available from the Regatta Secretary on completion of registration formalities.
Racing will take place inland on the Vaal Dam in front of Stilbaai Yacht Club.
9 THE COURSES
The courses to be sailed will be a windward-leeward Course.
10 PENALTY SYSTEM
Rule 44.1 is changed so that the Two-Turns Penalty is replaced by the One-Turn Penalty.
11.1 Low Point System of Appendix A4 will apply.
11.2 Four races are required to be completed to constitute a series.
11.3 (a) When fewer than 5 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores.
(b) When from 5 to 9 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.
(c) When 10 or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her races excluding her two worst scores.
12 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP REQUIREMENTS
In order to qualify as a National Class Championship, the following criteria shall be satisfied:
* A minimum of ten valid entries have been received no later than the closing time for entries, no later than one hour before the scheduled starting time of the first race
* At least ten finishers in any TWO races of the series.
* At least four races completed.
13.1 Yachts shall comply with their class buoyancy and safety requirements. SEM-05 for 2013-2016.
13.2 All competitors shall wear a personal buoyancy aid capable of supporting a 5kg steel weight at all times while afloat in a yacht.
13.3 Wet or dry suits do not constitute adequate buoyancy!
13.4 Additional safety requirements may be set out in the Sailing Instructions.
14 RADIO COMMUNICATION
Except in an emergency, a boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones.
Prizes will be given as follows:
Northern Region Medals will be awarded in accordance with the Requirements for National Championships, as follows:
10 – 14 boats Gold
15 – 19 boats Gold & Silver
20 or more boats Gold, Silver and Bronze
16 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4, Decision to Race. Neither the Organising Authority nor its officials or other persons associated with the organization of the event will accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
Each participating boat is encouraged to carry sufficient valid third-party liability insurance to cover any liability arising during the event. SEM-05 for 2013-2016.

Camping is available Please advise 2 weeks prior to the event who shall be camping along with quantity of tents and caravans.
