NOTICE OF RACE
SAS Mirror National Championships 2018
To be sailed at Stilbaai Yacht Club, North Bay Vaaldam Dam, Gauteng
From 21st December 2018 to the 23rd December 2018
The organizing authority is Stilbaai Yacht Club (SYC) in association with the Mirror Class Association under the authority and sanction of South African Sailing
The regatta will be governed by:
1.1 The rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2016-2020
1.2 The South African Sailing requirements for National Championships
1.3 The Equipment Rules of Sailing (ERS) 2017-2020 and the Mirror Class Rules
1.4 This Notice of Race, the Sailing Instructions and any amendments thereto.
In keeping with ISAF Regulation 20 – Advertising Code, boats may be required to display advertising chosen and supplied by the organising authority.
3. ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
3.1 The regatta is open to all boats of the Mirror Class.
3.2 In accordance with the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) Regulation 19 (Eligibility Code), all competitors (Helmspersons and all other crew) shall be members in good standing of a Yacht Club affiliated to and in good standing with
SA Sailing, or their Member National Authority in the case of non-South Africans. The Yacht Club name and membership details shall be stated on the entry form or crew list. Current valid South African Sailing Membership Cards or similar proof of MNA Membership in cases of non-South Africans shall be presented at Registration.
3.3 Eligible boats may enter by completing the attached form and sending it, together with the required fee or proof of payment, to:

3.4 Entry forms must be countersigned by a parent or guardian if the competitor is under the age of 18 on the first day of the regatta.
3.5 Late entries will be accepted until close of registration with a surcharge payment of R50.00.
4.1 Required fees are as follows: 18 and under, R400.00 Per Boat, Over18, R500.00 Per Boat.
4.2 Payment of entry fees may be made in cash, by cheque, or by direct/electronic deposit to the account detailed below. When paying by direct/electronic deposit, use MN/ Surname as the reference. A copy of the deposit must be furnished with the entry form.

All Entry Fees and Class subscriptions shall be paid prior to the close of Registration. Failure to meet this requirement will result in the affected yacht being recorded as Did Not Compete until such time as the required payment/s are made. This changes rule A11 (DNC)

Measurement and Inspection of Boats

A Non-Compulsory Briefing will be held on Friday 21st December 2018 at 10h00 at the registration point in the club grounds.
5.2 Dates of racing:
The warning signal for the first race is scheduled for 10h55 on the 21st December 2018
On subsequent days the scheduled time of the warning signal for the first race of each day is 08h55
5.3 Number of races for the regatta is 12
5.4 No racing is scheduled after 13h00 on the 23rd December 2018 unless a four-race series has not been constituted. In this event the fourth race will not be started after 15h30.
Each boat shall have a valid measurement certificate available. In addition, spot
measurements may be taken at any stage during the regatta.
7 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
Sailing Instructions will be available from the Regatta Secretary on completion of registration formalities.
Racing will take place on North Bay, Vaal Dam, Gauteng.
9 THE COURSES
The courses will be windward / leeward / triangular with an angle of approximately 90 degrees at the gybe mark and/or Trapezoidal / Windward / Leeward course with an offset finish mark.
10 PENALTY SYSTEM
Rule 44.1 applies.
11.1 Low Point System of Appendix A4.1 will apply.
11.2 Four races are required to be completed to constitute a series.
11.3 (a) When fewer than 5 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores.
(b) When from 5 to 9 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.
(c) When 10 or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her races excluding her two worst scores.
12 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP REQUIREMENTS
In order to qualify as a National Class Championship, the following criteria shall be satisfied:
• A minimum of ten valid entries have been received no later than the closing time for entries one hour before the scheduled starting time of the first race
• At least ten finishers in any two races of the series.
• At least four races completed.
13.1 Yachts shall comply with the National Small Vessel Safety Regulations, as well as their class safety requirements.
13.2 All competitors shall wear a personal buoyancy aid capable of supporting a 5 kg steel weight at all times while afloat in a yacht, when the Y Flag is displayed
13.3 Youth category competitors shall wear a personal buoyancy aid at all times while afloat in a yacht.
13.4 Wet or dry suits do not constitute adequate buoyancy!
14 SUPPORT BOATS
14.1 Team leaders, coaches and other support personnel shall stay at least 150meters outside areas where boats are racing, from the time of the Preparatory Signal for the first class to start until all boats have finished racing, unless the Race Committee signals a postponement or abandonment. Non-compliance with this rule may lead to action under RRS 64.4
14.2 Coach or individual support boats shall be marked with a Yellow Flag.
15 RADIO COMMUNICATION
Except in an emergency, a boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications. This restriction also applies to mobile phones.

In classes qualifying with the SA Sailing requirements for National Championships, South African Sailing medals will be presented as follows:
Yachts finishing at least 2 races Medal
10 to 14 yachts Gold
15 to 19 yachts Gold and Silver
20 or more yachts Gold, Silver and Bronze
Class Trophies and Prizes to be awarded by the Mirror Association
17 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4, Decision to Race. Neither the Organizing Authority nor its officials or other persons associated with the organization of the event will accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
Each participating boat is encouraged to carry sufficient valid third-party liability insurance to cover any liability arising during the event.
